Cats

I tolerate cats
poorly.
They cannot be kept
in the van
where their hunting of rodents
protects the poultry feed from contamination.
Foiling all efforts
to keep them indoors,
where their hunting would be most welcome,
they seem proudest of
fuzzy baby turkey entrails
splayed on the threshold
of the home they are charged with protecting.
The relationship between predator and prey is simpler
than the one between companions.
Life feeds on Life.
